While adoption of agile software methods is high, little hard, rigorous evidence exists as to the success of these approaches. This paper describes the design science process that will be used to create a measure for productivity in agile development environments. We consider design science to be suitable because measuring performance in software development is laden with issues around measurability, ambiguity and imperfection. As a result, we need the rigor that design science brings while still maintaining relevance. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
