This article examine's Brentano's famous re-introduction of the Scholastic concept of 'intentional in-existence of an object' in his 1874 Psychology from an Empirical Standpoint as the defining feature of 'psychical phenomena'. Though Brentano's second thesis on the intentional relation of 'psychical phenomena' towards their objects became more familiar and stressed later in phenomenology, this article examines the convergence and deviance of Brentano's use and meaning of 'intentional in-existence of an object' in his famous 1874 passage.
