Novel initiatives amongst the Internet community such as Internet2  and Qbone  are based on the use of high bandwidth and powerful computers. However the experience amongst the majority of Internet users is light-years from these emerging technologies. We describe the construction of a distributed high performance search engine, utilizing advanced threading techniques on a disk-less Linux cluster. The resulting Virtual Reality scene is passed to a standard client machine for viewing. This search engine bridges the gap between the Internet of today, and the Internet of the future.
