Details: In 2013 the archive of the renowned writer Pearse Hutchinson was permanently deposited in the Library at Maynooth University, and in 2014 a dedicated archivist was appointed to process this rich and important collection. An annual bursary/award in Pearse’s honour has also been established and Maynooth University will host an annual conference on his work and related aesthetic and cultural practices. Hutchinson’s collection is of key importance not only for the treasures it holds regarding his own development as an poet and artist, but also for the wider cultural and historical importance of Hutchinson’s correspondence with other writers, musicians, and artists, as well as his extensive work as a broadcaster, journalist and critic. In 2014, a launch event in Maynooth University celebrated the deposition of the archive at the library. For this event, the Maynooth University Library hosted an exhibition in the library of sample material from the archive. The event also included the launch of a new volume of Hutchinson’s poetry, ‘Listening to Bach’ as well as a screening of a short film which showed Hutchinson’s home in Dublin and the process of building his archive. A special feature of the evening was a series of readings of Hutchinson’s poetry, with music and song performed by friends and collaborators.
