Investigated the relationship between self-esteem and symptoms of depression by administering the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and a self-esteem inventory to 160 undergraduates. Results imply that when the self-esteem-related items in the BDI are removed there is no relationship between an S's self-esteem and his/her reporting of non-self-esteem-related symptoms of depression.
