This lecture examines the use of sport as a metaphor for Chicanx and Latinx activism. It situates the recent films Girlfight and Ovarian Psycos within a tradition of Latina art that seeks to celebrate female bodies in motion. It also explores the relationship between cycling and female empowerment in feminist history to consider why the Ovas chose cycling as the means through which to reclaim space in the marginalized urban areas of Los Angeles and as a way to protest violence against women.
